Hannah Arendt’s American Education

Robinwho: Never a better time to read Arendt. Also, you can put years into Upper Westside, but you can't take Upper Westside out of Upper Westside.
By David Denby The writer’s political ideal—citizens appearing before one another as equals, engaging in dialogue and debate—had a counterpart in her spirited gatherings on the Upper West Side.

Handwoven Banana-Fiber Lamps

Robinwho: Beautiful and incredible work. But my brain goes directly to—machine washable?
Milan-based Filipina designer Mirei Monticelli is using abacá, a plant fiber from the Philippines, to make this translucent handwoven textile she calls Banaca, working directly with weavers in Bicol. Then she's treating that textile almost like clothing—draping it, building volume, shaping it—to make huge biomorphic lamps that look like they're moving/alive when illuminated.

Agatha Christie

· Harrogate, Yorkshire, England

Ran into Agatha in a hotel. After politely introducing myself, I said, "Mommy is a big fan of yours. She has always wondered—are you trying to Gone Girl?" Agatha asked me what Gone Girl was. So I explained it to her. Then she put down her teacup and asked me if I liked the movie. I said I didn't like the ending, but Mommy called that woman a dumb bitch. Agatha didn't say anything. I enjoyed the scones very much.

The Panama Amphibian Rescue and Conservation Project

Robinwho: Bro, look at those golden frogs???
The Panama Amphibian Rescue and Conservation Project was created in 2009 to save amphibian species threatened with extinction by the deadly chytrid fungus. Since then, it has built captive populations of endangered frogs, supported rescue and fieldwork across Panama, and trained local conservationists in animal and veterinary care, breeding, and long-term population management. On February 26, 2026 They released Panama’s critically endangered golden frogs into the wild.
